Is there a genre of music that influences your writing/thinking? Do you listen to music while you write?

Music has always been a big part of my life. My first book, Broken Little Believer, actually comes with a music playlist. Every chapter is named after a song that "transports" me (and readers) to a time and place in my life that shaped me and my story. The book is an immersive experience that mirrors a road trip because no road trip is complete without music. The playlist offers music from many genres, including classic rock, country, chart toppers, and even a few Christian songs. Music complements our lives, and certain songs speak to and inspire us along the way. Therefore, many genres of music influence my writing. The music that appeals to me varies and is from many different eras. As for listening to music while I write, it all depends. Sometimes, I like to be quiet and still while I write, and other times, music sets the tone for what I'm trying to convey.

Favorite non-reading activity?

I love to travel and be outdoors. Being in nature is one of my most peaceful and exhilarating pastimes. I often travel without an itinerary or map and find that some of my best, most memorable adventures were not planned and found on roads less traveled.

Vacation druthers… City or Rural destination? Why?

I love to explore! Sometimes, it's in cities, and other times, it's in the countryside or rural areas. My favorite kind of beauty and most enjoyable vacations, though, are ones where natural beauty is abundant. I enjoy views of sunrises and sunsets, scenic car rides, or breathtaking views found atop a mountain. These more unobstructed, naturally occurring views are what I enjoy most and find represent my idea of a vacation.

Do you collect anything? If so, what, why, and for how long?

I collect pictures. I have been taking pictures of people, experiences, nature, and trips and have collected them since I was little. I moved around a lot when I was younger, and photographing things and people became my diary of sorts. I have boxes and boxes of pictures and countless albums. Pictures hold memories of people and places, some of which no longer exist. The pictures I have taken are precious to me, and I will continue to collect them as I make memories to share with loved ones and future generations.

What brings you great joy?

My children bring me the greatest joy. They are my best and most significant accomplishment in this life. I strive to make them proud and model what it means to be humble, kind, responsible, and respectful.
