Cheryl Tyler

My name is Cheryl Tyler, I am a Black American Woman. I was fortunate to have lived my dream at the age most just find a job to bring home a paycheck to take care of their family. I am now living my ideas, other things I wanted to do in life. I became a US Secret Service Agent, retired and started my own security logistics consulting company. I love traveling domestically and internationally, learning about other cultures and eating really good food. I recently wrote my first book and had an unbelievable first book signing in my 60’s .

What period of history do you wish you knew more about?

Slavery although it has been written about but I disagree. It is a part of America’s history and contribution that is not well documented intentionally, extremely one sided and very inconsistent.

Is there a work of art that you love. Why? Have you ever visited it in person?

Paintings by Charlotte Morgan, they are very “open” for interpretation in design and color. No I’ve never visited where her works are done but they are carried by a studio in London

What’s the difference (at least for you!) between being a writer and an author? How do you shift gears between the two?

I’m new to this world but “I" see a difference, it’s a difference that is unique. A writer can write whatever it is they want and when necessary. An Author is someone who has a  story to tell and they put the depth of themselves into the story in a different way a writer does. I think it’s a difference of being more personal, self ware.

Do you have another artistic outlet in addition to your writing? Do you sew? Paint? Draw? Knit? Dance?

Remodeling homes from the studs to a new creation. Interior decorating. I sew a little, machine and hand sewing/stitching. Don’t paint or draw. Love to dance almost any type of dance. Studied Ballet, soft, toe and tap for over 21 years.

If you could create a museum exhibition, what would be the theme?

Life in the eyes of an American Black Woman in America today.
